DOX BOX is the biggest and most important documentary film festival in the Arabic-speaking world. The fifth edition of DOX BOX was planned to take place between March 7 and 15, 2012.
But as Syria is undergoing a major uprising, claiming freedom facing brutal oppression by the Syrian govenrment, the organizers find it unacceptable to seek government permits or to hold a festival as if nothing is happening. Therefore they have decided to hold an outstanding DOX BOX event this year:
Instead of the usual DOX BOX core mission of showcasing the best in international and domestic creative documentary cinema, the organizers set out to screen the best of Syrian documentary films around the world on the night of March 15, 2012, under the name: DOX BOX Global Day.
Thursday, March 15, 2012 is not only the closing night of the ‘missing’ edition of DOX BOX, it also happens to be the first anniversary of the Syrian revolution.
The Nuremberg International Human Rights Film Festival and DOK Leipzig have the privilege of hosting this wonderful event in solidarity with our colleagues in Damascus under the auspices of Mr. Markus Löning, the Commissioner for Human Rights Policy and Humanitarian Aid at the Federal Foreign Office of Germany.
