Regisseurin Narges Kalhor verlegt Franz Kafkas Novelle „In der Strafkolonie“ in den Iran. In einem verlassenen Kellergewölbe steht die sog. „Egge“, eine Maschine, die verurteilte Strafgefangene bestraft, indem sie ihnen das Gebot, das sie übertreten haben, in den Leib ritzt. Am Ende dieser Prozedur steht der Tod; eine Chance auf Verteidigung gibt es nicht, denn „die Schuld ist immer zweifellos“. Die Egge ist Symbol einer totalitären Barbarei, die sich in sadomasochistischer Faszination ihrer eigenen Maschinerie ergeht. Kalhor verbindet Elemente dieser Geschichte mit Bezügen zum historischen Strafvollzug im Iran. Im Gegensatz zu Kafkas Vorbild begehrt ihr Protagonist bezeichnenderweise auf, stoppt und zerstört die Maschine und damit zugleich das System, dessen Symbol sie ist.
Director Narges Kalhor transfers Franz Kafka's novella In der Strafkolonie to Iran. In a deserted cellar vault stands the so called ‚Egge’, a machine that punishes convicted prisoners by carving the commandment they had disobeyed into their bodies.
The only possible escape from this procedure is death – there is no chance of defense, since „guilt is always without doubt“. The Egge is the symbol for a totalitarian barbarism which indulges in the sado-masochistic fascinations with its own machinery.
Kalhor combines elements of this story with references to Iran’s historic penal system. In striking contrast to Kafka’s model, her protagonist, however, revolts, stops and destroys the machine – and with it the system for which it has stood.
Narges Kalhor studied cinema at Beh-andish College in Tehran. After the completion of five short films she worked on a B.A. in Graphics which she completed in 2008. Narges Kalhor has been working as an editor for ARASB Advertising and Film Company, in Tehran for the last 5 years. During this time she completed several films in workshops taught by world-renowned director Abbas Kiarostami.

Narges Kalhor studierte Film am Beh-andish College in Teheran. Nach fünf Kurzfilmen nahm sie ein Grafik-Studium auf, das sie 2008 mit dem B.A. abschloss. Seit fünf Jahren arbeitet sie als Cutterin in der ARASB Werbe- und Filmproduktionsagentur in Teheran. Sie drehte mehrere Filme in Workshops des renommierten Regisseurs Abbas Kiarostami.Narges Kalhor studied cinema at Beh-andish College in Tehran.
