The Nuremberg International Human Rights Film Festival is proud to announce its 8th edition, Oct 2-9, 2013.

We accept all categories and film lengths - if it's a film, we want it!.

All submission are FREE of charge.

• International Competition (for films 50 min+): € 2500
  for outstanding achievement in a human rights film
• Audience Award (for films 50 min+): € 1000
  for the most popular film in the programme
• Open Eyes Youth Jury Award (all film lengths): € 1000
  for the film best suited for human rights education in schools

October 11 to 15

In between festival years, NIHRFF presents some of the best human rights films of the past year to sweeten the long waiting period until the next festival (Oct 2-9, 2013).

We're pleased to announce that Tunesian director Elyes Baccar (Rouge Parole) and Ugandan journalist and LGBTI activist Eric Bwire will join us for screenings.

Both discussions will be held in English with German translation.

From Oct 5-18 NIHRFF will present its Open Eyes School Project.

Open Eyes 2012 starts with a one-day training seminar for teachers on "Politics and Film" on Oct 5.

From Oct 8-18 follow the Open Eyes School Screenings in our festival cinemas at Filmhaus. We will present 10 great documentaries, fiction and animation films from all over the world - all of them with German subtitles or in German language versions.

UPDATE: We are happy and relieved to announce that Orwa Nyrabia has been set free by a civilian court in Syria. He had apparently been snatched by the Syrian military on August 24 andbeen disappeared for more than two weeks. For more info: www.newyorker.com

The Nuremberg International Human Rights Film Festival and the Human Rights Film Network (HRFN) join the Nyrabia family and the international community calling for the immediate release of our friend and colleague Orwa Nyrabia. Syrian filmmaker, producer and film festival director Orwa Nyrabia was arrested in Damascus International Airport while traveling to Cairo at noon on Thursday, August 23rd, 2012. Nyrabia’s family still have no information about the reasons for his detention or his whereabouts.
